Wolves, red deer, chamois, ibex, marmots, vultures: the wildlife of the Vercors is among the richest in the Alps. Head out to watch it on a naturalist outing near Grenoble.
The Pied Vert mountain leaders take you out into nature to discover, and perhaps observe, one or several of the animals typical of the Vercors massif.
Our outings adapt to your wishes. They mix our teaching approach, ideal for children, with a hide session at our best viewing spots for serious wildlife watchers.
These outings can be organised over a day, half a day, during a bivouac, or across several days to dig into a wildlife topic that fascinates you. The outing can be of the easy walk type or a sporty hike.

Let's spend an outing tracking the wildlife of the Vercors. Droppings, fur, dens: signs are everywhere, telling us a whole wild life exists between houses, forest and the peaks of the Vercors.
By the end of the outing, you'll have solid basics to track wild animals in the Vercors and where you live.

Wiped out by the end of the 19th century, the wolf is back on the Vercors plateau. The packs hit the headlines, but do we really know this predator?
Let's set off quietly on its trail.
We'll ask ourselves why its return matters: for people and pastoral farming, and for nature and its ecosystems.
Wolf, are you there? Can you hear me…

Year-round, book an outing that mixes wildlife discovery and, when conditions allow, animal observation.
The walking time and route difficulty can be adapted to your wishes and to the abilities of the participants. In winter, the outing may require snowshoes (provided by your leader).
The meeting point is decided at booking (based on where you're staying and the type of outing booked) within the Vercors Regional Nature Park: Villard-de-Lans, Autrans-Méaudre, Corrençon-en-Vercors, Lans, Rencurel, La Chapelle-en-Vercors.
Pricing info: summer season / winter.
The Vercors is a Regional Nature Park, not a wildlife park. Your mountain leader shares naturalist knowledge in an accessible way and, through their knowledge of the area, helps create a wild encounter. Observation is never guaranteed.

We loved the three outings organised with Pied Vert: trapper adventure, igloo building, and tracking animals. Great moments shared as a family (1 adult, 3 kids). A huge thank you to Yoann and Marion for their kindness, their teaching, and their love of nature. They adapted the activities so kids and grown-ups could all enjoy themselves. An experience worth doing again and again!

Ugo's explanations about all the animal tracks of this beautiful forest delighted us: pine marten, roe deer, even the tracks of a wolf pack. The story of the woodpecker and its holes. We ended 2024 in style in the middle of Mother Nature. Thanks Ugo!

She led us up to the Pas Enardant, a 2000-metre summit, with an incredible 360-degree view over the Vercors. Her knowledge of the terrain and her advice made the hike easier. And her explanations about the wildlife, plants and local life taught us so much! Thank you Marion. We'll do it again!

Each season has its highlights. The deer rut echoes in September-October. Marmots are active from May to September. In winter, snow reveals tracks and makes tracking easier. Ibex can be observed all year, but the December rut is striking.
Yes. Our outings are built to mix teaching and observation. Children learn to read signs of presence (tracks, droppings, fur) in a playful way. The walking pace is adapted.
Wolves are present in the Vercors, but very discreet. Our wolf tracking outing focuses on tracking, understanding the wolf's ecological role, and reading signs of presence. Direct sightings are rare, which is what makes them precious.
