Pied Vert is a mountain office in the Vercors. Behind the term there are mainly people: qualified mountain leaders who live in the massif and work here all year round.
Looking for a mountain leader in the Vercors means looking for someone you will trust with a day out, a group, sometimes children. Worth knowing who you are dealing with before you pick up the phone.
The Pied Vert mountain leaders
We live in Autrans-Méaudre, Lans-en-Vercors and Villard-de-Lans. We formed a mountain office to share a way of working rather than to split the job into specialities: each of us leads the full range of Pied Vert outings. Depending on the date and the size of the group, you will head out with one of us, and sometimes with two when the group is large.
The state qualification behind the title
Leading a hike for a fee is a regulated activity in France. We all hold the Diplôme d'État d'alpinisme, mountain leader qualification, issued by the Ministry of Sports. Each of us holds a professional card, an Isère state education accreditation and professional liability insurance.
These qualifications cover mid-mountain terrain, meaning ground where neither rope nor mountaineering equipment is needed, and snowshoeing in winter outside avalanche terrain.

The ground we actually know
We work mainly on the Quatre Montagnes plateau: Villard-de-Lans, Corrençon-en-Vercors, Lans-en-Vercors, Autrans-Méaudre, Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte. This is the northern Vercors, forty minutes from Grenoble.
We regularly head up to the Hauts Plateaux and towards the Grand Veymont. We also work around Rencurel and the Coulmes forest, at La Chapelle-en-Vercors, and in neighbouring massifs when an outing calls for it, in the Chartreuse or on Belledonne.
Knowing a massif year-round changes the outing: a leader who walks there every week knows where the deer rut is best heard in late September, which combe stays passable after heavy snowfall, and which path to avoid on an August Sunday.
