The Pied Vert mountain leaders love walking in the Vercors around mid-October. Autumn is often well underway in the northern Vercors and the trails are quiet. A few impressions in photos below.
Russet leaves still clinging to the branches give the landscape its warm glow. A treat on a Vercors hike.
Umbrellas, occasionally needed, add charm to our photos and a sense of adventure to our walks. Why not picnic under the porch of one of the many caves you can explore on the plateau.
The deer rut echoes across the valleys of Autrans-Méaudre, Lans-en-Vercors and Villard-de-Lans. A great moment for wildlife watches to observe the wildlife of the Vercors. A time of year not to miss when you love wild fauna.
Our themed outing on the wolves of the Vercors draws growing interest. Each time, we get to share, in the field, the specifics of this species with both the general public and enthusiasts. These walks also let us spot signs of many other mountain animals.
Ceps, parasol mushrooms, shaggy ink caps, horns of plenty… these mushrooms decorated our freshly picked pumpkins. We leave the amanitas to the landscape.
On the trails, nature explorers are rarer. The All Saints' holidays still feel like an ideal time to enjoy the fresh mountain air. When November arrives, you also hear the clashing horns of the ibex. The early signs of their rut.
And then comes winter, starting to show its face. A few flakes have already settled on the top of Grande Moucherolle, one of the Vercors summits, at the gateway to the Highlands. Opposite, the Belledonne peaks have whitened too, while the Écrins range in the distance lets you dream under its white blanket.
The first frosts bring frost-rimed morning awakenings.
The snowshoes are ready for winter outings, waiting for the good snowfalls we hope January will bring.

These photos were taken around the villages of the Four Mountains: on walks from Lans-en-Vercors, hikes from Villard, trail outings from Autrans, Méaudre, and on the Vercors Highlands. You can recognise familiar places like the Molière plateau, the Sornin plateau, the Bec de l'Aigle, the Coulmes forest and La Sure.
You can spot the Vercors, but also a small slice of Chartreuse and Belledonne.
