Discovering the
Sensitive Natural Areas
of Isère

Build an environmental education project and run it with your class, supported by a mountain leader (AMM).

The Isère département, through its scheme "A la découverte des ENS" (Discovering Sensitive Natural Areas), funds outings that introduce young people to the richness of natural heritage and landscapes on labelled sites.

Pied Vert mountain leaders, accredited animators with the département, support primary and secondary school teachers in Isère as they build their project.

Our support and the content we propose build on the teacher's educational goals, the goals of the ENS policy and also the chosen site.

What is an ENS?

"To preserve the quality of sites, landscapes and natural environments, the département has the authority to develop and implement a policy of protection, management and opening to the public of sensitive natural areas, whether wooded or not." Article L142-1 of 18 July 1985 – French Urban Planning Code

Sensitive Natural Areas (Espaces Naturels Sensibles, ENS) are places labelled by the département to protect heritage and raise public awareness of the issues at stake.

In most cases, the land is owned by the département. This land ownership makes it easier to put a management plan and the related works in place.

ENS can also be managed directly by local authorities such as municipalities.

That is one of the development directions for ENS in Isère. The aim is to encourage local stakeholders to take ownership of these spaces. In that case, the département provides technical and financial support to those authorities.

The financial tool behind this policy is central. Thanks to a levy on new construction, the départements can sustain a long-term policy.

The "A la découverte des ENS" scheme is part of this département ENS policy. Its aim is to introduce young people to:

List of Sensitive Natural Area sites

Among the 17 departmental ENS and 124 local ENS, here is the list of sites where Pied Vert wants to support teachers.

They were chosen for being close to where we live and for our deep knowledge of these sites.

The list may grow depending on specific teacher requests.
